Kidney on Auction?

A man tried to auction his own kidney on eBay!

The bidding started at $25,000. It seems like a hefty price until you realize that someone was trying to sell a human kidney on eBay. The bids kept getting hire and hire, until someone bid $5,750,100 before the website shut down the auction.
Apparently selling human organs on the internet is illegal - and against eBay's terms of service. How ridiculous.
The user that posted the kidney auction was hchero, a man who supposedly lived in Florida at the time.
The description on the auction said "You can choose either kidney, Buyer pays all transplant and medical costs. Of course only one for sale, as I need the other one to live. Serious bids only.''
It's hard to determine whether or not hchero was legitimately trying to sell his kidney. If he was, you can only begin to question why he had resorted to selling his kidney on the internet, as this all happened in 1999 - long before the internet consumed the lives of the every day person.
